Tough as They Come by SSG Travis Mills was truly an inspirational book.
The book takes you through Travis' three deployments into Afghanistan
through his recovery from a life changing injury to be the man he is
now. He is a quadruple amputee that's main message is "Hard times come
to everybody. When hard times happen, we have a choice to make. We can
become discouraged and bitter, or we can choose to never quit.
I
enjoyed reading this true story as it gave me so much insight into what
our soldiers do to keep us safe and to maintain the freedoms we have.
Travis describes in much detail each of his deployments. At times it
felt like too much detail for me but at others it reminded me of the
monotony that they often lived day in and day out. The brotherhood
between soldiers was heartwarming.
The long recovery was
fascinating to have the details of what he went through to get to today
where he functions mostly on his own. He is truly an encourager for
those going through a rough time.
At times I had a difficult
getting through parts of the book as they seemed to drag but knowing
what he had gone through made me want to finish to the end to hear how
he had overcome so much. I would recommend this book but give a warning
that it drags in a few places with a little too much detail for my preferences. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review.
